Women’s Basketball: Lady Wolves advance to 5-2 in win over McHenry

The Lady Wolves defeated McHenry County College by final score of 70-56 on Saturday, Nov. 22. With the victory, they’re now 5-2 and are currently on a three game winning streak.

Guard Bernasia Fox led the team in scoring with 15 points. Guard Le’royia Campbell was right behind her with 14, along with her eight rebounds.

The team also saw scoring production out of guards Juatece McNear and Naomi Mayes, as they put up 11 points each.

In addition, forward Brittany McWaine accumulated eight rebounds to tie for the team lead, along with Campbell. Guard Coriesha Bailey was the team leader in assists, with seven.

Head coach Shaun Sanderson was very positive when speaking on the victory, and rightfully so. “We did some good things tonight,” said Sanderson.

Sanderson was also pleased with the effort he saw out of McNear.

“It was good to see Juatece McNear knock down some three-point shots today,” Sanderson said. We know what she is capable of, but we have been patient with her, as she adjusts to the speed of the college game.”

Despite the win, Sanderson still wants to see growth out of his team, something the he’s preached game-in and game-out all season long.

The Lady Wolves will be able to show even more growth in their next game, as they host Kankakee Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 5 p.m. They’ll look to extend their winning streak to four games and remain undefeated at home.
